Windy Thrills: An Adrenaline Rush from Skydiving

A windy day can be the perfect opportunity to have an exhilarating and exciting thrill. Skydiving is probably one of the best ways to get it and experience nature at the same time. While there’s nothing quite like free falling through the sky, skydiving lets you enjoy some of the most stunning views in the world from way up high in the clouds. It’s not something to take lightly, but if you’re looking for some serious thrills that leave you exhilarated and scared out of your mind, then this is one experience that you definitely shouldn’t miss out on!

How did I fall in love with skydiving?

I took my first plunge through a groupon deal. I was scared at first to jump out of an airplane, but once I took that leap, it is something that completely changed my perspective on life. The feeling is exciting and refreshing! There are incredible views from 10,000 feet up in the sky. There’s nothing like it! If you have never skydived before, you should try it at least once in your lifetime; I promise that you won’t regret it! You’ll come away with a whole new perspective on life as well as a big adrenaline rush! It is truly breathtaking when jumping out of an airplane for the first time.

It’s easy to fall in love with skydiving, especially if you do it once or twice! When you start to get that amazing rush of adrenaline while falling through beautiful clouds, you will want to come back for more and more. As a matter of fact, I took my first skydive when I was younger and I immediately signed up for my second jump shortly after. I fell in love with skydiving so much that now every chance I get, I’m taking time out of my busy schedule to go up there. The views are breathtaking and rejuvenating; it is truly amazing how beautifully we are made!

How did I get my baptism by fire?

First time you go skydiving, you’ll attend a training session to ensure that you don’t have any medical problems (such as a heart condition) or any conditions that could prevent a skydive. The class is also important because it introduces you to what happens during and after your jump. You’ll be introduced to all of your equipment—including your goggles, oxygen mask, and parachute—and learn how to land properly. They even tell you which way is up when jumping out of an airplane! As they say in the industry, there are 8 seconds between leaving and landing so make sure you enjoy them as much as possible.

If you’re ready to take that step to make your first skydive, it’s important to know what to expect. When you jump out of a plane, you have about 8 seconds in free fall before reaching terminal velocity. At that point, gravity takes over and your parachute automatically opens so you can enjoy a soft landing on Earth. On average, first-time skydivers usually jump somewhere between 12,000 and 14,000 feet before plummeting back down again. The wind chill at these heights is nothing short of -40°C so expect those last few seconds up there to be extremely refreshing! You should be outfitted with warm clothing because without fail, despite layers of underclothing they’ll still see your body turn blue.

Everything after your first jump is pretty easy

There’s nothing in your way. You simply step off into space, feel a slight tug of wind and realize you’re floating above Earth while falling at terminal velocity. Whether it’s because I’m jumping tandem or because my jump master is wearing a giant purple tank top, I have to fight a smile when we begin falling. It just feels incredible…and rerlaxing—relaxing and exhilarating.

I’m at peace when I’m falling through clouds. I love to relax and give myself fully to it; not fighting but rather embracing every moment as my body gets pulled back to Earth. The best thing about skydiving for me? The minute or two after landing, when the parachute has landed next to me and I’ve hopped out of the harness with an unbridled joyousness that can only be described as a Hoo-yah!
Look what I did! Look what I did!

Staying safe when you skydive

Want to learn how to skydive, but afraid of getting hurt? Don’t worry; you’re not alone. Many first-time jumpers share your apprehension, and if you’ve never done it before, you may be wondering just how safe it is. After all, wind can lead to wildly unpredictable free falls. That being said, there are plenty of precautions that both instructors and skydivers take in order to stay safe when they jump out of a plane. Since no one wants you to go into a freakout (or worse) while airborne, we rounded up some advice on staying safe during your first jump.

For starters, there are many different ways to get into a plane with your parachute on. There’s static line jumping, which is what most people think of when they picture skydivers and involves either opening your chute after a preset distance or altitude (which is known as free-falling), or deploying it manually by pulling a ripcord. Then there’s tandem jumping, where an instructor accompanies you on your jump, monitoring your position and stabilizing you in free fall while helping you steer. These jumps do not count toward one’s skydiving license and may be a good idea for novice jumpers who are nervous about going it alone.
