Located a bit further north, Tamale is also a must-see for visitors. While there you’ll have many different things to do, including visiting King Jimmy Market where local artisans sell everything from jewelry to toys that you won’t find anywhere else in West Africa. You can also go hiking on nearby Mount Yendi or visit Lake Bosumtwi’s scenic waterfalls before exploring Tamale’s many street food options and great restaurants with beautiful views of Mt. Yendi..

Tarkwa Mines – West of Cape Coast, an hour away is Tarkwa Mine (one of Africa’s oldest), where you can walk through a 1km pit, home to spiders and scorpions. Remember to take some repellent! The sand on either side is mined for garnet which you can buy as beads at tiny little shops along your journey out. It’s also a great place to go if you’re trying to explore without breaking that bank account! Your efforts will definitely be rewarded with something shiny.
Manhatten Beach – With local tribes talking about sea gods, manhatten beach offers some fantastic serene coastline views.
Bolgatanga Palace – Last but not least, Bolgatanga Palace is an incredible place to visit! It boasts both indoor and outdoor swimming pools (that are heated!) as well as a full-fledged barbeque area.
