Kolombia Travel Advice Colombia is a country that should be explored at least once by every traveller. From it’s striking coastlines to it’s fascinating culture, there are many unforgettable destinations throughout. With over 4,400 kilometres of coastline, it’s not hard to see why so many people choose to visit Colombia. Although some areas can be a little more dangerous than others, I certainly wouldn’t let that put you off visiting one of South America’s most beautiful countries. In fact, it would only make me want to visit even more! As long as you take sensible precautions whilst there, there really is something for everyone in Colombia and here are just some of my favourite places

A mesmerizing walled city on the Caribbean coast, Cartagena is an impressive place full of history, culture and phenomenal architecture. The Spanish colonial buildings, colorful streets and vibrant atmosphere make it a captivating destination that should not be missed.

Take a stroll through its old town, visit one of its many museums or simply enjoy an evening at one of its lively bars – it’s sure to captivate you. For even more cultural stimulation, head down to an art gallery or check out some of its famous colonial churches. Try climbing La Popa Mountain for beautiful views over the city and have lunch overlooking the Caribbean Sea at Cabo San Juan del Águila; explore Parque del Centenario with its beautifully landscaped gardens; spend time wandering around Plaza de la Aduana, once the centre of commerce but now home to some fine examples of baroque architecture; see Santa Clara Church which is famous for being decorated with carvings from Havana where a Cuban marble sculpture used to reside.

Consider hiring a private guide to show you around; they’ll provide insider knowledge of its history and culture. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, try booking a boat trip through one of its mangrove swamps or on an overnight sailing tour to Islas del Rosario. Make sure you stop by El Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas; it is an impressive fortress built during colonial times that is located at the entrance to the harbour and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After spending a day exploring Cartagena’s attractions, take your pick from its gorgeous white-sand beaches, rich biodiversity and rainforest hiking trails.

Medellín is a beautiful city located in the Andes mountains. With its mild climate, stunning scenery and friendly people, it is no wonder that this phenomenal destination is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. The city offers visitors plenty of attractions to explore including cable cars, museums, nightlife and much more. There are also numerous parks available for those who want to enjoy some fresh air or go on a hike.

One of the most well-known sites to visit in Medellin is La Quinta Pared (The Fifth Wall). The mural covers more than 6 kilometers of wall space and shows rural scenes from different regions of Colombia. The work was created by Colombian artist Fernando Botero and each individual piece has been painted by hand by many artists since 1986.

Another popular site to visit is Parque de las Luces (Park of Lights). It features a great variety of beautiful plants and animals along with stunning views of the city. Visitors can see everything from hummingbirds to butterflies to spiders as they make their way through the park. At the end of your journey, you will find yourself surrounded by flowers and trees bursting with color. However, one thing that makes this place really special is how there are never any animals caged up or kept behind fences; they roam free like they should be able to do anywhere else!

A city located in the southwestern part of Colombia, Cali is a place full of energy and life. The streets are bustling with people and music, and the food is flavorful and diverse. Cali is also home to some of the best salsa dancing in the world. If you’re looking for a place to let loose and have a good time, Cali is the place for you.

Chocó: Chocó is a province in northwest of Colombia that contains a lot of wildlife and culture. This natural part of South America is unlike anywhere else on earth, and you’ll see it as soon as you land. Be prepared to be flooded with new experiences as soon as you get off your plane! The province has some of most biodiverse rainforests anywhere on earth, including plenty of animals—like giant anteaters and sloths—that have become endangered due to hunting. There are also more than 20 indigenous tribes here that coexist peacefully; locals greet each other with a respectful nod and warm handshake, instead of handshakes.

Nestled in the Andean mountains, Ipiales is a picturesque town with a colonial flair. The main square is anchored by a beautiful cathedral, and the streets are lined with colorful buildings. Ipiales is also home to the world’s largest collection of pre-Hispanic musical instruments, making it a must-visit for music lovers.
