Where is the Most Beautiful Place in Bellinzona?

Situated in the canton of Ticino in southern Switzerland, Bellinzona is easily accessible by car or public transport. By car, take the A2 motorway from Zurich or Basel, and exit at Bellinzona Sud. There are also regular trains from both Zurich and Basel that stop at Bellinzona station. Once you arrive in the town center, it is a short walk to the castle complex.

The castle itself was constructed in two phases. The first was in 1027 under a charter from Emperor Conrad II, who granted Agnello Atto di Camerana, a citizen of Como, permission to build a fortified tower on one side of an existing bridge over the Ticino River. Over time, additional structures were added to create what is known as Il Castello (the castle), with its oldest parts dating back to 1100. It wasn’t until 1160 that it began functioning as an independent municipality; prior to that it had been under direct control of Como.
