Providence, Rhode Island, isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you think of big-name destinations to visit in the United States. However, it was one of the first places colonized by Europeans in North America, and it became the country’s first capital after independence in 1776. It also offers some of the most amazing architecture and history anywhere on the East Coast, making it well worth your time to visit. The State Capitol Building

One of the most impressive buildings in all of Providence is the State Capitol Building. The architecture is marvelous and it’s impossible to forget once you’ve seen it. Roger Williams National Memorial

Providence is a city with a rich history and plenty of places to explore. For instance, there is the Roger Williams National Memorial, which memorializes the life of Rhode Island founder Roger Williams. The memorial is located in downtown Providence on Benefit Street. There are several monuments within the park, including a statue of Roger Williams kneeling before the great oak tree that he was trying to protect from destruction by local Native Americans, as well as statues of other historic figures from Rhode Island’s past. The beautiful bronze sculpture depicts what was said to be one of his last requests Here lies Roger Williams, who died at Salem, 1682.

The memorial park has a rich history that dates back to 1872. It was originally a site for homeless veterans, until it was converted into a park in 1916, at which point an obelisk was added. Later in 1955, Roger Williams’ ashes were interred beneath one of two large bronze statues of him located on either side of an eternal flame. The park is situated right next to downtown Providence, making it easy to stop by on your way to your next destination.

WaterFire – Providence

As soon as you see the flames, you’ll understand why WaterFire is one of the most popular attractions in Providence. Held throughout the summer, this event features over 80 bonfires that are lit on the three rivers that flow through downtown Providence. The fires, which are artfully arranged, provide a beautiful and unique setting for an evening stroll. Don’t miss the chance to experience this unforgettable event!

The city’s largest exhibition center, Rhode Island Convention Center is also one of its most popular attractions. Not only does it host a wide variety of exhibitions throughout each year, but it’s also a prime location for special events like corporate parties, business conferences and awards ceremonies. With over 330,000 square feet of space spread across six floors—including 80 meeting rooms—the convention center offers some excellent facilities that help make any event truly memorable.

Touring the State House in RI

Known as one of the oldest cities in the country, Providence is the capital of Rhode Island. The State House is one of the most iconic buildings in the city. It was built in 1762 and is a beautiful example of 18th-century architecture. Touring the State House is a great way to learn about the history and culture of Providence. When you tour the State House, you will also have the opportunity to see the Rhode Island State Seal, which is on display in the rotunda.

The Rhode Island State Seal is surrounded by an intricate pattern. On it, you’ll see a ship, which represents exploration; an anchor, representing both hope and perseverance; a sword pointing upwards, signifying defense against injustice; and finally a Charter Oak tree in bloom with one leaf falling off to represent freedom. At the top right-hand corner is a shield with three grapevines that signify Rhode Island’s fruitful past. The Latin motto Hope sits above these symbols while Resurgam (Latin for I shall rise again) wraps around the bottom of the seal. Within this design are also five stars that symbolize America’s original thirteen colonies. Alongside them are two serpents facing each other holding staffs in their mouths, symbolizing peace and wisdom. Rhode Island Ballet Company

The Rhode Island Ballet Company is one of the most highly respected professional ballet companies in New England. The company’s classically trained dancers come from all over the world to perform with the company. The company has been performing for over 40 years and has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the world. The company is based in Providence, Rhode Island and performs at the Providence Performing Arts Center.

Their repertoire consists of masterpieces from masters such as George Balanchine, John Cranko, Yuri Possokhov, Twyla Tharp, Christopher Wheeldon and Jerome Robbins. The company also works with a wide variety of guest choreographers to showcase new talent in ballet. If you are planning a trip to Providence you will be glad to know that their performances will add an extra touch to your visit. But if you don’t have time for a visit, you can still get to know them better by watching one of their many DVDs or attending one of their touring shows throughout New England.

They perform around 100 performances every year, with their biggest show taking place during holiday season at Rhode Island’s Performing Arts Center. You can watch a performance or attend one of their many classes to get an up close look at what life is like as a dancer. If you happen to be in town during The Nutcracker season, you can also watch them perform that show every December. Now more than 75 years later it still resides in Covent Garden.
