Delicious Armenian Food: A Culture of Relishing Good Taste

While there are many different countries and regions with delicious and unique food cultures, one culture that stands out is the Armenian culture. Armenians are famous for the deliciousness of their food, and it’s not hard to see why once you try the dishes they enjoy so much. In fact, they even have a word in their language, heradur, which translates to to relish good taste – and that’s exactly what it means. The cuisine of Armenia

The food is typically very healthy, as Armenians use a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits in their dishes.
There are many great Armenian restaurants in Yerevan, the capital city, but you can also find excellent food all over the country. Breakfast is usually a light meal, while lunch and dinner are more substantial.
Armenians love to eat, and they often have large gatherings with family and friends where they share meals. Desserts are an important part of Armenian cuisine, and they are often very sweet.

Armenia is famous for its lavash, a traditional flatbread that people love to wrap around cheese or vegetables to make delicious snacks. Armenians love eating fruit, and they use fresh fruits in many savory dishes. The country is also known for its delicious spices like cumin and sumac.

In Armenia, mankousheh is typically made withlavash (a type of soft flatbread), yogurt, feta cheese, and cumin. The dough is rolled out very thin and then baked in a hot oven until it is crispy. Mankousheh makes a delicious and hearty breakfast or snack.

Chinch are are thin pancakes or breads made from chickpeas, ground meat, or grains that can be served with any number of toppings.
Salads play a very important role in Armenian cuisine, and many salads have their own special day on which they are traditionally consumed. Salad Olivier is similar to tabbouleh but doesn’t include bulgur wheat and has more cucumber than parsley. It’s also mixed with mayonnaise instead of olive oil; whereas tabbouleh contains lemon juice in addition to vinegar and olive oil.

A common home preparation for moussaka is to layer slices of eggplant and potato with a tomato and yogurt sauce, topped with a custard topping. Moussaka is usually served hot as part of a main course, but you can also have it cold as part of an appetizer selection.


One of the most popular dishes in Armenia is dolma, which is a stuffed vegetable dish. The most common vegetables used for dolma are peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants. The filling is usually made with rice, ground meat, and spices. Dolma is typically served with yogurt or a vinegar-based sauce.

Meat is another common ingredient in Armenia. Often, it is spiced and then barbecued on a skewer. Lamb and chicken are commonly used for these dishes, but beef, pork, veal, or even fish can be used as well. Shish kebab is one example of skewered meat, while khorma is a dish that includes meat mixed with vegetables. Khorkhog (barbecued lamb stuffed with rice) is another popular meat dish in Armenia. Also popular are stews made with beef or lamb called khash; they are often flavored with garlic and onions.

Fish is also popular in Armenia, often served baked or fried. Fried fish is usually breaded or coated with batter before it is cooked, while baked fish is usually rubbed with olive oil and lemon juice.


A type of flatbread, tanour is a staple in Armenian cuisine. It is made of wheat flour, water and salt and sometimes includes milk or yogurt. Tanour is traditionally baked in a tandoor, or clay oven.

It is often served with butter, cheese or a meat stew called tars. The word tanour means flatbread in Armenian. There are several different types of tanour, including jarek and gata, which are specific to individual regions. Most common varieties include erishkig (made with water), klsek (made with yogurt) and naimak (unleavened).

Sharshoukhieh & Khash: These are two types of soup that feature as common dishes in Lebanese cuisine, as well as other Mediterranean cuisines like Greek and Turkish cuisine. Sharshoukhieh is a lentil soup, it’s typically made with garlic, onions, tomatoes and spices such as cumin, coriander and allspice. Some people also add cinnamon or nutmeg for flavor. Traditionally eaten at breakfast time it can be eaten any time of day because it’s so hearty and filling.

Khash is a soup made with whole wheat grains and chicken. The name means bowl in Arabic, and refers to both its roundness and that it’s served in a bowl. It’s often garnished with parsley or sumac on top, as well as crispy fried onions or garlic. Khash is typically eaten as part of a meze platter along with other Lebanese appetizers.


Armenian cuisine has been influenced by many different cultures over the years, but it still retains its own unique flavor. One of the things that makes Armenian food so delicious is the use of fresh ingredients. Armenians are also known for their love of spices, which give their dishes a distinct flavor.
