So if you want to see why Bulgarians are so proud of their country, check out these terrific destinations now!
Bulgarian Black Sea Coast is Magical
The Bulgarian Black Sea Coast is one of the most awesome places I’ve ever been. The water is a deep blue and the sand is soft and white. The coastline is dotted with remarkable restaurants, impressive hotels, and outstanding nightclubs. I highly recommend spending a few days here- you won’t regret it!
One of my favorite places to visit is Tsarevo. There are dozens of luxurious hotels here, as well as outstanding restaurants, but what I love most about Tsarevo is its nightclubs. They’re amazing! Some people spend their entire vacations in just one of these clubs- they really are that fun! You should definitely check them out if you’re coming to Bulgaria for a vacation.
But not all Bulgarian Black Sea Coast beaches are quite so awesome- some have algae infestations due to pollution.
If you want to spend some time away from cities, there are a few hidden gems on Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast. One of these is Devin. Most tourists never find it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth visiting! It has an amazing beach, excellent seafood restaurants, great views, and lots of places to relax. You should definitely visit if you have time!
Tulip Fields in Southwestern Bulgaria
The tulip fields in southwestern Bulgaria are a remarkable sight. They are expansive and colorful, with over two hundred varieties of tulips. The fields are also impressive for their history; they were planted by the Ottoman Empire in the seventeenth century. Today, the tulip fields are a popular tourist destination, and visitors can even pick their own bouquet of tulips.
The area around Smolyan is divided into two distinct tulip-viewing seasons. The first is in April, after winter ends but before summer heat has kicked in. During that time, you can pick your own flowers from mid-April to mid-May. The second season starts in late May, when blooms are at their peak. The Southwestern Province has a number of hotels that are great for families with kids—and if you don’t want to make a trip out of it, you can order flowers directly from nearby flower shops. You’ll also find tour companies willing to take you out to see both types of tulips during different times of year.
Not to be outdone by its northern neighbor, Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast has several destinations where tulips grow. The best time to visit is in May or June, when you can see flowers at their peak. Three beach resorts—Ahtopol, Sozopol and Pomorie—all have tulip fields surrounding them; some of them are as large as 10 acres. It’s a particularly lovely sight at night, when they’re lit up with spotlights.
The Danube Bend’s Natural Beauty
The Danube Bend is one of Bulgaria’s most popular tourist destinations. The natural beauty of the bend is incredible, with the river winding through lush green hills. The area is also home to a number of castles and fortresses, making it a great place to explore. If you’re looking for a breathtaking natural setting, the Danube Bend is definitely worth a visit.
Yet another great Bulgarian destination is Plovdiv. A city rich in cultural attractions, it has museums, churches, and theaters. The main highlight of Plovdiv is it’s ancient amphitheater, which has been preserved beautifully. It’s an incredible sight to see a venue that dates back thousands of years still hosting events today. The amphitheater is just one example of how vibrant Plovdiv culture can be.
The historic city of Veliko Tarnovo is another great option if you’re looking for a unique Bulgarian experience. This city dates back to 9th century and was once capital of Bulgaria. There are quite a few museums here that showcase how unique Bulgarian culture is, as well as many other historical sites in town. It’s also surrounded by lush green hills, making it a great choice if you want to get away from cities but still enjoy natural beauty at the same time.
Hiking the Balkan Mountains
The Balkan Mountains are a mountain range that runs through the Balkan Peninsula. They are one of the oldest mountain ranges in Europe and are home to some of the most incredible hiking trails. The mountains offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, and there are plenty of opportunities for wildlife spotting. If you’re looking for an adventure, hiking the Balkan Mountains is a great option.
The highest peak in Bulgaria is Musala, which sits at 2,925 meters. The mountain offers incredible views of surrounding countries like Greece, Turkey and Serbia. It’s possible to hike to its peak from end-to-end in a few days. The trail passes through unique geography and takes you past four nature reserves that are protected under Bulgarian law. There are lots of other hiking trails in Bulgaria, too—about 3,500 kilometers of them total—so you’re sure to find one that suits your interests. Before you set out on your trip, it’s important to note that many trails don’t have fixed paths or markings so it’s a good idea to go with an experienced guide if you can.
