Go From Place to Place

From the moment you arrive in Belize, you will be mesmerized by the beauty of this country. The beaches are unforgettable, the rainforests are fantastic and the Maya ruins are marvelous. There is so much to see and do in Belize, you will never be bored. Here are some of the best destinations to explore in this amazing country.

After checking out one of these places, head to San Ignacio. This small town, set in a lush rainforest, is home to some fantastic opportunities for adventure sports. Take a canyoning tour along numerous waterfalls and caves, or try ziplining over a rainforest. If you prefer nature walks instead of adrenaline rushes, there are numerous guided hiking trails that take you through miles of green paradise. After working up an appetite on your hike, take advantage of San Ignacio’s restaurants and eateries. Be sure to try local dishes such as chaya soup and fried breadfruit with chicken.

Next, head to Caye Caulker. This idyllic island is a backpacker’s dream with opportunities for sunbathing and fishing. Your only major challenge on Caye Caulker will be deciding which one of its numerous beaches you want to lounge on as you watch a fantastic sunset. There are also plenty of water activities for those who prefer staying active, such as snorkeling tours and day boat trips. Diving & Snorkeling

Belize’s Great Blue Hole is a mesmerizing dive site. The large, underwater sinkhole is more than 400 feet deep and surrounded by coral reef. Visitors can also explore the nearby caves and swim through the crystal clear waters. The Marine Reserve is home to an abundance of marine life, including turtles, rays, and colorful fish. Snorkelers can enjoy the marvelous views of the reef from the surface.

The waters around Roatan are often described as ‘Caribbean clear’, with visibility at more than 100 feet. While there are a number of dive sites in Roatan, many divers visit Shark Ray Alley for its large collection of sharks and rays. Visibility is generally between 20 and 35 feet but can get as high as 45 feet during winter months. The bottom of Shark Ray Alley is covered in soft coral sand with an average temperature between 75 and 80 degrees.

Placencia is another coastal area in Belize that offers breathtaking diving opportunities. Divers can explore large coral formations, gardens of sponges and several wreck sites. These include Tiger Reef, which was used as a practice target for aircraft during World War II, and Baymen’s Wreck, which has been on display since it sank in 1976. In addition to diving tours with boats available in Placencia, there are other tour operators that run snorkelling trips where you can swim amongst fish like trumpetfish, clownfish and angelfish. The village of Hopkins is an additional popular destination for scuba divers who enjoy exploring warm waters while submerged up to 100 feet.

One of the best things to do in Belize is go wildlife watching. The country is home to a variety of different animals, including howler monkeys, jaguars, and tapirs. You can go on a safari or take a boat tour to see these animals in their natural habitat.
