White sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and palm trees galore. That’s what you can expect when you travel to the stunning destinations of Vanuatu. But there’s more to this South Pacific nation than just beaches. With lush rainforests, friendly locals, and plenty of activities to keep you busy, Vanuatu is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation or an adventure-filled getaway. Here are just a few of the amazing places you can explore in Vanuatu
But it’s definitely not my only favorite thing about vacationing in Vanuatu. One other stunning attraction in Vanuatu is a water sports paradise. Home to hundreds of islands scattered across 2 million square miles of ocean, you can set off on an amazing yacht cruise, or charter your own yacht to see as many destinations as possible. You could also explore by kayak or sailboat and even do some scuba diving if you want to see some marine life up close and personal! On land, enjoy exploring secluded beaches with crystal clear waters and snorkeling among hundreds of fish just outside your door step.
I definitely think vacationing in Vanuatu is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences, but with all its natural beauty and history, it’s worth visiting multiple times! With so many islands to explore and activities to choose from, I could keep going back for years and never get bored. But if you want my advice, one amazing place you must visit is Mele Cascades on Pentecost Island. Mele Cascades is a small waterfall surrounded by lush greenery that makes for an incredibly picturesque backdrop. There are also plenty of trees nearby where you can relax as well as vendors who will sell you everything from souvenirs to local snacks like coconuts.
It was one of those things on my bucket list that I just had to do. And when I finally took the plunge, I was not disappointed. The water was crystal clear and the fish were so colorful. I even saw a turtle!
In order to scuba dive, you must have certification, which requires a course. Usually there is a place on your cruise ship where you can take classes, or a company will come onboard. The certification course includes several hours in a pool and then several dives at various depths. As long as you are with an experienced instructor, there is nothing dangerous about it!
Once you get certified, a ship’s excursion is a great way to experience scuba diving. They will set up your gear and guide you underwater. Several resorts offer tours and certification classes as well.Just make sure that you stay within your depth level so that you don’t get any air bubbles in your blood stream from shallow water dives.
I had never been snorkeling before, so I was a bit nervous when I first put on my gear and jumped into the water. But as soon as I saw the colorful fish swimming around me, I was hooked! I spent hours exploring the reefs and marveling at the variety of marine life. Vanuatu is truly a snorkeler’s paradise.
It was lucky enough to be there during whale season, and one day on a hike, you will see what looked like an island covered in people. You will not be sure what it was at first, but as you get closer, you will realize that it was a group of tourists gathered around spotting whales and other marine life! The guides were explaining whale migration patterns, helping passengers photograph passing whales or even taking them out on short boat rides so they could get up close and personal with these enormous mammals. Now that’s my kind of tour!
